Homemade Greek Seasoning


This is a homemade Greek seasoning mix. If you can't find at the grocery store, Our Test Kitchen home economists came up with their own rendition of the ethnic blend.

Ingredients :
• 1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano
• 1 teaspoon dried mint
• 1 teaspoon dried thyme
• ½ teaspoon dried basil
• ½ teaspoon dried marjoram
• ½ teaspoon dried minced onion
• ¼ teaspoon dried minced garlic

Directions :
1. In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to 6 months.

For 12 servings


Nutritional Analysis: One serving (½ teaspoon) equals 2 calories, trace fat (0 saturated fat), 0 cholesterol, 1 mg sodium, trace carbohydrate, trace fiber, trace protein. Diabetic Exchange: Free food.

Garam Masala Easy Recipe


This is a quick Garam Masala (Indian spice) mix. Garam Masala is better when made with whole spices that have been roasted and ground, but this is a quick and easy substitute that's pretty good.

Ingredients :
• 1 tablespoon ground cumin
• 1 ½ teaspoons ground coriander
• 1 ½ teaspoons ground cardamom
• 1 ½ teaspoons ground pepper
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• ½ teaspoon ground cloves
• ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions :
1. Mix cumin, coriander, cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg in a bowl. Place mix in an airtight container, and store in a cool, dry place.
